Having this perfect "hand care marriage" is quite the challenge and when eczema comes into the picture, things get even more complicated. Eczema is a common skin condition that many babies and young children experience. For many, this condition lasts into the teen years and even adulthood. Unfortunately, it is a chronic condition with no cure but luckily, there are many ways to help treat this common skin problem.
Common symptoms include dry red or brown patches, itchy skin that only gets worse as you scratch it along with dry, crusty textures. Lots of people get it in on their hands and is, of course, not a pretty sight when you want to show off your new manicure.
There are many treatments that include various types of therapies and medications. For those who are seeing early signs and are experiencing mild conditions, save yourself from a future of worsening effects, and take the time to whip your hand care skin routine in action.
"Use mild soaps, preferably without perfumes, when cleaning your hands," says family physician and skin specialist, Dr. Mina Tasharofi Kia, "moisturizing regularly at least twice per day, ideally every time you wash your hands, is very important. Thick creams or ointments are generally more effective. If the greasiness is undesired throughout the day, try to at least use them at night."
When asked what ingredients to look for when choosing a hand cream that can help ease those irritations, Tasharofi says "look for ceramides, glycyrrhetinic acid (a natural anti-inflammatory agent), urea, and glycerol in your products when browsing around".
So don't ignore those itchy hands, your skin will thank you.

It's very easy to neglect your feet, especially after a long day and the pre-bedtime face ritual is done. If you've made the effort to invest in your hand care routine, take just a little more time to treat your feet as well - it'll be worth it for sure.
The Right Materials Matter
Make sure to wear breathable socks that will keep your feet warm, but more importantly, dry as well. Controlling foot sweat is something that is overlooked.
Keep Your Feet Clean
Just like how we all love a good daily face cleanse, the same goes for our feet. Don't worry about needing to do this every day but try and soak your feet once a week. On top of that, electric foot files further help to remove dead skin and calluses.
Hydrate
Find a quality foot cream that will help to deeply moisturize your feet which will prevent you from getting common winter problems like cracked skin on your heels. The best time to moisturize your feet is before bedtime to allow your cream of choice to works it magic. Wear moisture-locking socks for even better results.
But, of course, that means dry skin season is also here and everyone needs to crank up their hand-maintenance game.
Use gentler products
The pandemic isn't over just yet and with more people staying indoors, that also means common colds and the flu will be on this rise over the next few months. Washing your hands regularly is one of the most effective ways to prevent and get rid of infectious bacteria on your skin. Soap and water help rinse away germs but when done frequently, the protective oils are also stripped away. This causes our skin to dry faster.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial soaps can be quite harsh, especially when using them multiple times a day. Gentle cleansers are a great alternative and have the same effect. Find alcohol-free sanitizers with oils and other great ingredients like aloe.
Pat dry your hands
A common mistake that many people make after washing their hands is that they rub them too hard with the towel. Rubbing your skin further adds to the irritation and dryness. Pat drying your skin with a towel causes less irritation while also leaving your hands with some dampness.
Moisturize
After washing your hands, patting them down gently, and leaving them a little damp, it's time to lock in the water with a good moisturizer. This is our favourite part, of course. It is important to know that hand creams differ from body lotions.
Find a hand cream that works well for you and has ingredients that nourishes the skin. Oil-based hand creams are recommended - some of our favourites are argan, sweet almond, sunflower and avocado. Finally, take the time to massage your hands when applying your moisturizers so then can really absorb nicely into the skin.

What does the Dead Sea mean to Mina?
“I relate being near to the Dead Sea as a place that represents some of my best memories in Jordan. I always heard about its great benefits and what the mud does to your joints and skin. At the time I was growing up there, there weren’t many products made from the minerals that I knew of. When I came up with the idea to start ALULA, I wanted to create products that incorporated skincare philosophies that I knew growing up while taking in my business experiences that I am so grateful to have learned living in Canada.
What does it mean being a female business owner?
“My career choices and experiences have given me the knowledge to feel independent and confident enough to add another professional title to my list. It is an empowering time to be a female business owner. It is also very important for me to run a brand where the products have been made and manufactured by all women as well."
What is Mina’s go-to hand and foot care tips?
“I don’t remember a day since I was a teenager that I didn’t use hand cream. I have it everywhere around me. I use creams and lotions after washing my hands – every time! I don’t like the feeling of dry hands and believe that you have to put in the effort if you want good skin. We all know that, and this applies to all skin from head to toe, including hands and feet. I also have two daughters and want to lead by examples when it comes to skin and body care. I want them to love and take care of their skin all over. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of going for pedicures to maintain selfcare on my feet is a must which is why I am obsessed with moisturizing them on my own.”
]]>Just like what many of us do with our face skincare routines to lock the most amount of moisture in, applying our favourite hand and foot creams should be done right before bed. With a good sleeping routine, you have, perhaps, seven to eight hours to effectively treat your skin.

The extraordinarily high concentration of minerals in the Dead Sea area is incomparable to anywhere else in the world. In the 18th century, it was discovered that the minerals had healing properties. When it comes to skin benefits, mineral content from the Dead Sea waters acts as a natural cleanser and revitalizer, repairing skin cells. There is no better connection between nature and skin.
